Michael Houston was born and raised in Piedmont, Alabama, a small rural town nestled in the hills of the Deep South. After high school, he attended Tuskegee University on a Presidential Scholarship. He received his bachelors’ degree in mathematics education from Tuskegee University in 2004 graduating Magna Cum Laude. After graduating, he immediately moved to the Houston area to begin pursuing a masters’ degree in curriculum and instruction at the University of Houston Clear Lake, where he would later earn two Master of Science degrees.
In 2006, Michael became a first-year mathematics teacher at Clear Creek High School in Clear Creek ISD. The very next year, he helped open Clear Springs High School, taught math, and coached track there. After two years there, he became the mathematics department head at Clear View High School. In 2011, after only five years of teaching at three high schools, Michael became an assistant principal at Clear Creek ISD, and in 2012, he became the head principal of Clear View High School. While there, he initiated several mentoring and student success programs that helped Clear View maintain an almost 0% dropout rate and a place where students’ lives are changed for the better.
In 2018, after six years at Clear View, Michael was named as the new principal of Clear Springs High School, the largest high school in Clear Creek ISD. Michael is a strong public education advocate and has closely worked with the Charles Butt Foundation over the years. He currently serves as a Principal Advocacy Fellow, Charles Butt Scholar Mentor, and an Alumni Regional Director for the Charles Butt Foundation. Along with his passion to support the education of others, he is also currently pursuing an Educational Leadership Doctorate degree at Baylor University and wants to continue to positively impact lives through education.
Michael has a relentless passion for helping all students, teachers, and families be successful; especially those who have had less than desirable previous educational experiences. Michael and his wife Stacy are actively involved in their church and are proud to live and work in the Clear Creek ISD community. They have two sons, Sage and Mason.
