As a former teacher and principal, I know this time of year is a whirlwind. And there is no better time for teachers to feel recognized and respected for your immense contributions throughout the school year.
Teacher Appreciation Week is upon us, and on behalf of the Charles Butt Foundation, I want to extend our deepest gratitude to each of you for the extraordinary work you do every single day. We’ve always prioritized the teaching profession through programs, grants, scholarships, and storytelling. We know that student outcomes are better when classrooms are led by well-prepared, high-performing teachers, especially where they are needed most.
For this Teacher Appreciation Week, we’re inviting video submissions from teachers to help others understand the passion and creativity you bring to your classroom every day, from proud family members of teachers who know firsthand the impact teachers make for Texas students, and from the general public about teachers who changed their lives.
We’re highlighting our Voices on Teaching series — with firsthand accounts how teachers changed the trajectory of someone’s life — and lifting up the perspectives and experiences of teachers through our Teacher Poll.
One week is never enough to honor the importance and impact of teachers and the teaching profession. That’s why we also celebrate Texas Teachers’ Day on October 5 along with hundreds of companies and organizations who light up buildings in blue, tie blue ribbons, and work with partners who coordinate promotions benefiting teachers, and engage city councils and school boards who pass resolutions and proclamations.
Thank you for choosing one of the world’s oldest, greatest, most important professions, that helps create all others. Your work is not just shaping individual lives—it is shaping the future of our entire state. Because teachers give rise to the future.

This poll marks the Charles Butt Foundation’s fifth consecutive year of robust survey research, data analysis, and outreach with the goal of supporting Texas teachers. Through the years, the Charles Butt Foundation has affirmed teachers’ perspectives, and this year’s poll highlights where action and support would make the most difference for the profession.
