Charles Butt Scholarship Finalist Information

Congratulations on advancing to the next round of the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers!

The final step in the selection process is to participate in a virtual interview day via Zoom. You will receive information about how to sign up for your interview time via email. Please be sure to open any emails you receive from the Charles Butt Foundation. Emails may come from RaisingTXTeachers@CharlesButtFdn.org or noreply@mail.smapply.net

Please remember, this scholarship opportunity is specifically for students who plan to become Texas public school teachers in either Title 1 schools or shortage subject areas (math/science/bilingual/special education). Applicants should either be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in one of the eligible programs listed here.

Information about the interview and how to prepare, is provided below. If you have any questions, please email RaisingTXTeachers@CharlesButtFdn.org.

Virtual Interview Day

Individual Interview

Each finalist will participate in a virtual, individual interview with an interview panelist. The purpose of this interview is to provide some additional information about yourself and your commitment to becoming a Texas public school teacher. The interview panelist will ask several questions about your connection to the teaching profession and about how you demonstrate the Charles Butt Scholar Knowledge, Skills, and Values in your life.

The Charles Butt Scholarship is for students committed to becoming public school teachers in Texas in either Title 1 schools or shortage subject area (math, science, bilingual, or special education). You will be asked about your interest in teaching in one of these commitment areas.

If you are selected as a finalist for multiple universities, you only need to interview once. Scholarship decisions will all be sent by June 15, 2024. Please do not contact the Charles Butt Scholarship team before then to ask for decisions.

How should I prepare for the interview?

  • Get comfortable with the features of Zoom, if you aren’t already. Practice signing on, turning the volume up and down, and speaking.
  • Your interview will last for 15 minutes, which is not very long! Practice being concise but getting to the point.
  • Reflect on your connection to public education and teaching. Because this is a scholarship for aspiring public school teachers, you will be asked about what this profession means to you and why you want to teach.
