Seeing potential in all students

Our Voices on Teaching series features diverse perspectives about the importance of the teaching profession and personal stories about teachers who helped give rise to the future.

In this Voices on Teaching video, Dr. Gilberto Lara, an assistant professor in the Department of Bilingual and Literacy Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio (formerly at the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley), explains the importance of teachers seeing potential in all their students.

In elementary school, Dr. Lara had a teacher that would include him in everything—even though it was only his second year in the United States and he was an English language learner.

Today, he is still grateful for what his teacher did for him.
