The SMU Simmons School of Education attracts undergraduate and graduate students with a passion for teaching. Through partnership with the Charles Butt Foundation’s Raising Texas Teachers initiative, Simmons awards the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers to selected candidates each year. Our programs blend rigorous, research-based coursework with extensive field experiences culminating in clinical teaching or a supported internship, ensuring practice-ready graduates. SMU prioritizes high-need areas, including literacy, mathematics, bilingual education, and special education, and collaborates with outstanding school districts and community organizations to prepare new teachers to lead inclusive classrooms across Texas.
Participation in a year-long residency program and a commitment to pursuing a teaching career in Texas is required.
