University of Houston

The award-winning teacher education program at the University of Houston College of Education prepares students to succeed in diverse classrooms. All students participate in a yearlong student-teaching residency, providing real-world experience to set them apart from their peers. Student teachers receive coaching and support from UH faculty coordinators as well as a mentor teacher, setting them up for success in their own classrooms. Our students also have high passing rates on state certification exams. In addition, an annual job fair helps graduating students network with dozens of school districts, and school leaders regularly reach out to recruit our graduates. Of note: First-year teachers in the Houston area can earn $60,000 a year in most large districts. We welcome aspiring teachers to apply to the University of Houston!
