The research is clear, teachers have the most significant impact on student success. Therefore, the long-term success of our communities and our state is inextricably linked to the quality of our teacher workforce. At the Charles Butt Foundation we believe in a future Texas where every student, in every classroom across the state, has an effective teacher every year.
In 2017, we launched the Raising Texas Teachers program to address the crisis faced by the teaching profession in Texas and strive toward a Texas where every new teacher, regardless of their pathway into teaching, is adequately prepared to meet the needs of their students on day one. Our deep partnerships with university-based teacher preparation programs seek to raise the overall quality of teacher preparation across the state by promoting continuous improvement in the field.
We partner with 20 university-based educator preparation programs across Texas to deliver the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers. Faculty teams from each institution are also part of our University Partnerships work through the Raising Texas Teachers program.
While all 20 programs align with the values of the Charles Butt Scholarship and the Raising Texas Teachers program, each has a unique focus and eligibility criteria – some prepare educators for shortage subject areas like bilingual education, special education, or math and science, and others are general education programs or offer a Master of Arts in Teaching.

Each program page also celebrates the current Charles Butt Scholars and Scholar Alumni who are part of this program and network of Texas educators.
